Diabetic foot

People with diabetes have a much greater risk of developing foot problems.  This is because high blood glucose (blood sugar), can cause nerve damage, effecting the sensation in the feet.  This means that an injury can easily go undetected.  In addition, diabetes also compromises the circulation of blood around the body.  With less blood getting to the legs and feet, cuts and sores may not easily heal.  If foot problems are not quickly identified and treated, it can lead to foot ulcers, infections and in extreme cases amputations.

It is therefore important that if you have diabetes you maintain good foot care and regularly inspect your feet.  It is also recommended that you have your feet checked at least annually by a healthcare professional.

At Stride Out Footcare, in addition to routine nail care and treating any foot problems, we also carry out regular neurological assessments to identify any potential issues and inform treatment plans.
